Any sweetened or unsweetened bread dough will work with this fun technique to make adorable Easter bunny bread rolls, perfect for Easter brunch or a kids’ party.

whirl hot milk In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together 1/4 cup flour and yeast for the dough.

Allow to sit for about 15 minutes to make sure the yeast is active; you should see tiny bubbles beginning to appear on top.

Add the melted butter, most of the remaining flour, the sugar, beaten egg, lemon and orange zest, cinnamon, salt, cardamom, and nutmeg (you might not need it all).

Use a dough hook attachment to mix for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the dough starts to pull away from the bowl’s sides and starts to become slightly elastic.

After about 10 minutes of kneading, the dough should be soft and shiny.

Take the dough out of the dough hook and form it into a ball.

Transfer to a work surface that has been lightly dusted with flour.
