Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cakes
These are Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cakes, which have a chocolate “funny” layer that bakes to the bottom and are baked in a pie crust.
In a saucepan, add 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and cocoa water.
Bring to a boil over medium-low heat without boiling.
Place aside.
1 1/2 cups of sugar and butter are creamed together in a sizable bowl.
Stir in the eggs.
Add milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla and stir.
Bake powder and flour should be combined, then added to the creamed mixture.
Pour batter evenly into the pastry shells.
In each pastry shell, spread 1/3 of the cocoa mixture on top of the cake batter.
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until cake is done, at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
